When we first started making soaps and balms, we purchased pre-infused botanical oils. They worked well—but they were expensive, and something felt missing. We wanted a deeper connection to the ingredients that go into every bar of soap and every balm we make.
We asked a simple question: Why aren’t we doing this ourselves?
Today, we grow as much as we can right here on our Florida homestead, including moringa, calendula (marigolds), rosemary, sage, peppermint, lavender, papaya, and loofahs. We also forage responsibly when possible and source from trusted growers when nature doesn’t provide everything we need.
Once harvested, many of our herbs and flowers are infused into nourishing oils using time-honored apothecary methods. Depending on the plant and the desired extraction, we either allow the botanicals to slowly infuse in natural sunlight—borrowing from generations of traditional herbalists—or use a gentle low-heat infusion to carefully draw out their beneficial properties while protecting the integrity of the oils.
Calendula is one of our favorite examples. Celebrated for its soothing, skin-loving qualities, we infuse our own calendula flowers to create the rich botanical oils that become part of our tallow soaps, triple butter soaps, goat milk soaps, and our Calendula & Moringa Tallow Balm. From growing and harvesting to infusing and crafting, we oversee every step with intention.
Making our own infused oils takes patience. It isn’t the quickest or easiest approach, but it gives us complete control over quality and allows us to honor the plants that inspire our products.
It’s one more way we stay true to what Sweet Baby Lily is all about: growing what we can, crafting in small batches, embracing traditional methods, and creating products with purpose—from our homestead to your home.
It’s not the fastest way.
It’s simply the way we believe it should be done.
